Driver-turned Transport Motorcade Boss Zhu Xiwang Hopes to Join Hands with Yuchai to Fulfill His Dre

"Now highways charge by weight and freight is low, the highway transportation industry has become increasingly hard," said Zhu Xiwang from Linhai City, Zhenjiang Province when seeing the reporter.

Zhu is a transport motorcade boss born in the 1980s. He owns four trucks including three Dongfeng Liuqi trucks and a Jiefang truck. A decade ago, he was only an ordinary truck driver.

How did Zhu grow from a driver into a boss? Let's start from his connection to Yuchai heavy-duty engines.

Interest makes him devoted to truck transportation

Subordinate to Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, Linhai is one of the country's top 100 counties as well as an industrial city. In such an industrially developed city, the highway logistics market is also developed.

In early 2000, Zhu took up his first job. As he was fond of driving, supported by his family, Zhu started his logistics transport career as a truck driver. Several years later, with a fund from his family, Zhu with some experience purchased Dongfeng truck, the first truck belonging to him.

After turning boss, Zhu operated freight business from Linhai's Jiangnan steel market to Hangzhou. The round trip between Linhai and Hangzhou covers some 700 kilometers. "My trucks are loaded with cargo of different customers every time and then transport cargo to different areas of Hangzhou," he said. During bulk cargo transport operation, Zhu gradually saw the potential of the highway logistics market in the Yangtze River Delta. This also made him aware that he should build his own motorcade to be a motorcade boss instead of a vehicle boss.

Know Yuchai heavy-duty engines by coincidence

In 2010, a coincidence brought Zhu closer to his dream of being a "motorcade boss".

"I had owned a Jiefang truck and a Dongfeng truck then, but I wanted to upgrade the Dongfeng truck purchased earliest, Zhang Jian (brand manager of Lutong Auto Trade, distributor of Liuqi Balong heavy-duty trucks in Taizhou) recommended the heavy-duty truck powered by Yuchai heavy-duty engine. As he was my good friend from childhood, I purchased a Balong truck powered by Yuchai YC6L engine without any hesitation," Zhu recalled.

Zhu told the reporter, few heavy-duty trucks carried Yuchai engines in the early days and Yuchai engines are less reputed; due to the mass use of Yuchai heavy-duty engines on buses, Yuchai earned good market reputation, "Thus, I felt assured to choose Yuchai heavy-duty engines," he said.

Unexpectedly, Zhu became Yuchai's loyal fan henceforth. After being connected to Yuchai heavy-duty engines, his dream of "being a motorcade boss" came true step by step.

Great engine, realizable dream

After owning two trucks, Zhu still engaged in cargo transport and transported cargo from Linhai to different areas of Hangzhou every day. "Covering the same distance, in same operating conditions, Yuchai engines save much more fuel or 100 yuan compared to similar domestic heavy-duty truck engines," he said. He transports cargo to Hangzhou about 9 to 10 times every month, saving some 100 yuan every time and about 1,000 yuan a month.

Apart from fuel economy, Yuchai's large-horsepower engine can carry more cargo and earn Zhu more money. Due to large power, compared to trucks of the same tonnage, Yuchai-powered Balong can carry 13 to 14 tons of cargo more.

Zhu told the press, the transportation expenses from Linhai to Hangzhou are about 100 yuan per ton. Excluding tolls and the drivers' wages, the profit is little. "The more my Yuchai-powered trucks transport, the more profit I make," he said.

Additionally, the reliability of the first Yuchai-powered truck purchased three years ago has never let Zhu down, "The earliest 270hp Balong truck has operated for three years and covered 250,000 kilometers, it has almost never broken down and even the engine has not been opened yet. According to its current condition, the truck can still operate for a few years," he said.

Due to the outstanding performance of Yuchai heavy-duty engines, Zhu saved another sum of money with the newly-purchased Balong truck over the year. Soon he purchased a Yuchai-powered Chenglong medium-duty truck and another Yuchai-powered 290hp Balong truck.

Now Zhu's motorcade has four heavy-duty trucks, of which three carry Yuchai engines. Amid the slump in the highway logistics industry, his operations remain sound by virtue of high efficiency and fuel economy of Yuchai heavy-duty engines. "I seldom saw Yuchai-powered heavy-duty trucks in Linhai and even Taizhou three years ago, but there have been more and more such trucks," he was undoubtedly satisfied with his choice at that time.
