Yuchai's 1st 16VC marine engine prototype developed successfully

On January 6, at the laboratory of Yuchai R & D Center, Yan Ping, chairman of Yuchai Group, pressed the button to ignite Yuchai's 16VC marine engine prototype. As the engine roared and operated stably, it was ignited successfully.

With a displacement of 105.6L, a rated power of 2,000kW to 2,400kW, a speed of 1,500rpm and a minimum fuel consumption of not more than 200g/kW.h, the V-shaped 16-cylinder engine will mainly be used as a single onshore generating unit and the main unit of ships. The engine is technically advanced with one electronic unit pump per cylinder; with the air inlet pipe on the two sides and the exhaust pipe in the middle, the engine has good accessibility. Besides, the water outlet pipe, air inlet pipe and exhaust pipe were sectionalized to facilitate manufacturing.

According to Huang Yongzhong, vice general manager of the Marine Department of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., the prototype is Yuchai's another R & D achievement in the high-speed marine engine field, filling the gap of Yuchai's headquarters in high-speed large-horsepower marine engines. Previously, Yuchai's marine engines with a single-unit power of less than 1,650kW was restricted in the large-horsepower marine engine market, while 16VC engine with a rated power of over 2,000kW will boost Yuchai's efforts to develop the marine engine market.

Seeing the engine running at a high speed, Yan said happily, Yuchai has set the objective of selling 100,000 marine engines annually in three years, the organizational restructuring and resource integration of the marine engine sector has begun, successful development of 16VC engine is a great encouragement to all marine engine developers and researchers and is of great significance to the future development of the marine engine sector. He encouraged the marine engine developers and researchers to renew efforts to make more achievements, thereby boosting the development of the marine engine sector.
