Yuchai Marine Power Co., Ltd. (YMP) has recently got the first order for Wartsila two-stroke dual-fuel engines (five 5RT-flex50 DF engines). The first 5RT-flex50 DF engine is scheduled to be delivered in late February 2015 for a new LNG carrier operated by Zhejiang Huaxiang Shipping Co., Ltd.

Wartsila introduced two-stroke dual-fuel technology last November. A research shows Wartsila's low-pressure dual-fuel engine operating under the gas mode can save cost by 15 percent to 20 percent compared to engines using other technologies. Besides, the engine operating under the gas mode is up to IMO Tier III emission standards without an exhaust gas cleaning system.

The order has not only effectively filled a gap in the domestic market of two-stroke low-pressure dual-fuel low-speed marine engines, but also marks YMP's capability to manufacture internationally advanced low-speed two-stroke diesel marine engines has reached a new level.
