Yuchai launches 3,000+ hybrid engines to lead industry in new energy power

After the State Council promulgated the Industrial Development Plan of Energy-conserving and New Energy Vehicles (2012-2020) on June 28, 2012, the State released a succession of new energy subsidy policies, and local governments released a series of plans for new energy technology development, introduction and infrastructural construction. Essentials of new energy subsidy policies: 1. Only plug-in hybrid vehicles are subsidized. 2. From 2013 to 2015, the cumulative quantity of new energy vehicles popularized in super large cities or key areas shall be not less than 10,000 units and the cumulative quantity of new energy vehicles popularized in other cities shall be not less than 5,000 units. 3. New energy vehicles shall account for not less than 30 percent of newly-added or updated buses, official vehicles, logistics vehicles and sanitary vehicles. 4. New subsidy standards shall remain unchanged from 2013 to 2015. The promulgation of the new energy industrial development plan is not only a reform of the auto industry, but also a test of the capacity for engine technology R & D and a grasp of market opportunities. Whoever seizes the opportunity of the industrial reform to forge ahead against all odds will be the pacemaker in the new energy vehicle industry. New energy vehicle application can effectively ease the strain of oil resources and well resolve the problem of environmental pollution caused by vehicle emission. Bus, especially city bus, is a window of urban transport. The application and popularization of new energy bus have been intensified constantly.

For a long time, Yuchai has been committed to being Chinas leading green engine manufacturer, and focused on developing and manufacturing gas engines, hybrid engines and other green new energy engines meeting customer demands, thus being extensively recognized by customers. Yuchai began surveys on hybrid engine R & D in 2004 and began the study on the homotaxial parallel hybrid engine based on the core demand of hybrid buses in 2005. In 2007, Yuchai successfully developed city bus hybrid engine (ISG hybrid engine). In the following years, Yuchai constantly perfected and optimized its system, launched YCHPT 2nd-generation plug-in hybrid system (YCHPT II), an update of YCHPT I, in late 2011, and manufactured and launched the system in volume.

YCHPT second-generation plug-in hybrid system (YCHPT II) is a system upgraded on the basis of the first-generation system in late 2011. It inherits the advantages of homotaxial parallel strong hybrid system such as high integration and large power density, carries a specific motor, increases the motor power to 120kW to meet the dual demands of deep hybrid power and plug-in system, shows advantages such as high energy feedback efficiency and high fuel saving ratio, accords with the requirements of national new energy subsidies, and is mainstream technical route in the world. Besides, the integrated design of "engine + motor" makes YCHPT II characterized by compact mechanism and high mechanical efficiency. The standard AMT automatic transmission adapts to a wider range of operating conditions and features functions of intelligent shift, AMT and power/economy model toggle. In terms of energy storage element, super capacitor adaptation was added on the basis of nickel-hydrogen and lithium iron phosphate batteries originally. YCHPT II is generalized as having a transmission and applying to a wide range of operating conditions; high mechanical efficiency; flexible adjustment in electric power ratio; high fuel saving ratio; and having the function of "limp home".

So far over 3,000 Yuchai hybrid engines have been launched, accounting for over 70 percent of the domestic hybrid bus market. Yuchai hybrid engines are supplied to key domestic bus makers such as Xiamen King Long, Jiangsu Higer, Zhengzhou Yutong, GAGC, Chongqing Hengtong, Jinhua Yaman, Zhongtong Bus, Jiangxi Bonluck and Guilin Daewoo to power 9m-12m large & medium-sized city buses widely used in cities like Guangzhou, Suzhou, Chongqing, Kunming, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanchang, Guiyang, Zhengzhou and Hohhot. Yuchai hybrid engines were favored by customers with a fuel saving ration of 25 percent to 30 percent.

Facing the increasingly severe demand of the auto market and the increasingly worsening homogenization of products, Yuchai will constantly quicken the step of technical renovation, keep pace with the development of international technologies, assume the sense of business mission and sense of social responsibility, uphold the core concept of "Green Development & Harmony Win-win" and lead the new energy power industry all the way.
