As the theory test of the Yulin tryout of 2014 Guangxi Skill Master Contest wound up, the practical operation competition kicked off on the morning of July 24. By work types, the competition was held at Machining Section 2 of Engine Plant 5, Yuchai Practical Training Center and the training building of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (Yuchai Machinery).

At 8 AM, the welding, bench working and forklift competition started at Yuchai Practical Training Center. Guo Deming, deputy Party secretary of Yuchai Group; Ye Bin, deputy Party secretary of Yuchai Machinery and Li Chengjie, chairman of the Labor Union of Yuchai Group were present and encouraged the contestants to show their unique skills.

The welder competition had 23 contestants and involved shield metal arc welding, argon tungsten-arc welding and flux cored arc welding. The judges scored welding works based on elements such as weld width, weld tolerance, weld appearance and undercut. The forklift competition this year differed vastly from last year in operation content: the props were glass bottle and barreled water which were placed high and low to test the contestants' operation stability and accuracy.

The practical operation competition of computer (microcomputer) debugging and electrical maintenance took place at the training building of Yuchai Machinery. The practical operation involved computer assembly, installation of Window 7 operating system and network switch debugging. Tang Zhiping from Xiamen Yuchai assembled the computer with ease from the beginning of the competition. At 9:20 AM, he finished his operation first and spent 50 minutes only. "The test was not very difficult, I was not very skillful and found some wrong screws because it has been a long time since I assembled a computer last year," he said.

At Machining Section 2 of Engine Plant 5, 18 processing center operators were participating in the practical operation competition. The competition required the contestants to create a sign of "yc". Contestant No. 20 Li Chengwen attentively adjusted the tool to origin according to the dimensions marked in the drawings, and entered the procedure to be processed on the control panel of the processing center. During processing, he fixed eyes on the operation path and processed procedure of the cutting tool and modified the processed procedure when necessary.

According to sources, the practical operation of the contest will run till July 25.
