On May 28, the medium-speed engine project, with a joint venture from Yuchai Marine Power Co., Ltd. (YCMP) and Wartsila Corporation, was launched at the Zhuhai Fushan Industrial Park. After its completion, the project will primarily turn out Wartsila-branded W20, W26 and W32 medium-speed marine diesel engines as main power and auxiliary power for generation. The strong combination of Yuchai and Wartsila in the field of medium-speed diesel engines will build Chinas high-end medium-speed marine engine manufacturing base and a model in Chinese-foreign cooperation in diesel engine technology and production.
The project was established on December 20, 2012 and is scheduled to come on stream in June 2014. Yuchai teamed up with Wartsila again to build a medium-speed engine manufacturing base is aimed to address the need of strategic development, create a more complete engine spectrum and foster new growth points. At the launch ceremony, Yan Ping, chairman of Yuchai Group, said, after the project is completed and comes on stream, Yuchai will own 27 series of low, medium and high-speed, light, medium and heavy-duty multi-cylinder engines for vehicles, ships, construction machinery, agricultural machinery and generating equipment, thus forming the most complete spectrum of diesel engines in the country and having a huge impact on Yuchai's industrial structure and product structure. It is believed that YCMP will be one of Yuchai's fastest-rising new industries in the near future. The launch of the medium-speed engine project will deepen the strong combination on the basis of the successful cooperation between Yuchai and Wartsila, and play a significant role in pushing forward the Chinese national industry and marine cause.
Yuchai and Wartsila created the fastest world-stunning construction speed during the project, Yan said, believing the two sides will work new miracles in future construction.
Wartsila which boasts global leading technologies in the marine power field opted to cooperate with Yuchai a second time, because it expected much of the outlook of the Chinese marine power market and fancied Yuchai's tremendous strength. Bj?rn Rosengren, CEO of Wartsila Corporation, noted Wartsila has always valued the Chinese market and the second cooperation between the two companies is a good complementarity. Yuchai's successful experience in talent team building, sales and purchase channel development, and service network construction will inject infinite power into the development of medium-speed and low-speed engines. Wartsila's advanced technologies will lay a solid foundation for the product quality and structure of the medium-speed engine project. Wartsila will further expand its market share in China by improving its production capacity in Zhuhai. Today marks a milestone, the two sides will start the joint effort to build Wartsila Yuchai Engine Co., Ltd., it is believed the viable enterprise will bring infinite energy to Yuchai, Wartsila and Zhuhai.
Li Jia, secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee; He Ningka, mayor of Zhuhai City; Wang Qingli, vice mayor of Zhuhai City; as well as Yan and Rosengren touched the laser ball to launch the medium-speed engine project.
According to sources, Wartsila-branded W20, W26 and W32 medium-speed diesel engines, with a power of ranging from 800kW and 10,000kW, will be widely used on ocean engineering, offshore, oceangoing and special-purpose ships as main power and auxiliary power for generation. They are a marine power series China lacks at present.
