On May 26, "2013 Chinese Industrial-Economic Enterprise Social Responsibility Report Release Conference & Social Responsibility Evaluation Index System Release Ceremony", organized by the China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE), took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. 87 enterprises in industries such as power, coal, steel, petrochemical, nonferrous metals and mining and from 20 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions released their social responsibility reports.
At the conference, Yuchai released its 6th sustainable development report, which discloses social responsibility performance according to the core subjects and relevant content determined by ISO26000, and distinctly demonstrates practices and typical cases of fulfilling social responsibility such as deepening corporate culture building, practicing lean manufacturing, sincerely serving staff teams, developing green power, specializing in segments and safeguarding customers' interests.
Facing the severe and complex external market situation in 2012, Yuchai staff made concerted efforts, coped with various changes and tests, kept deepening industrial distribution and achieved remarkable effects in diversified operations; made smooth progress in the development of new products including low-speed diesel engines and large-power medium-speed engines, and constantly improved the capacity for independent innovation; released the brand strategy plan with Yuchai's brand value topping 10 billion yuan for the first time; steadily advanced lean manufacturing projects, effectively improved operation management and boosted core competitiveness; attached great importance to protecting suppliers' interests and built a whole value supply chain system to grow with suppliers; paid attention to and fulfill public welfare undertakings, donated 1 million yuan for Yulin Foundation for Justice and Courage, and continued supporting 500 "Spring Bud" Girls in finishing school. In 2012, Yuchai delivered a good social responsibility report to the society as a corporate citizen.
Gu Xiulian, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National Peoples Congress and honorary president of CFIE, was present. Li Yizhong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, vice chairman of the Economic Committee of the CPPCC Central Committee and president of CFIE; Zhou Zixue, chief economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Huang Yi, member of the Party Leadership Group and chief engineer of the State Administration of Work Safety and Nie Shengkui, director of the Department of Labor Relations, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, attended the conference and delivered important speeches.
Speaking of industrial enterprises' social responsibility, Li noted enterprises should fulfill the responsibility of taking clean production and intensive growth as inherent requirements. For many years, the proportion of China's industry to the GDP has been maintained at around 40 percent and its economic contribution has been close to 50 percent, however, China's industrial growth remains excessively dependent on material resources, he said. "China's total energy consumption in 2012 was equivalent to 3.62 billion tons of standard coal, accounting for 20.5 percent of the global total energy consumption and contributing 10.5 percent of the global GDP." He deemed that China should integrate economic development with ecological protection instead of taking the road of using energy and resources unrestrainedly taken by antecedent countries.
Referring to the problems of state-owned enterprise and private enterprise reforms, he considered the reforms of state-owned enterprises and private ones to be ineffective, especially the latter. "Some private enterprises were transformed from state-owned enterprises, it is impossible for them to shift mechanisms overnight." Li advised that state-owned enterprises and private ones should complete and tolerate each other instead of picking holes mutually. Large-sized enterprises should drive the development of small and medium-sized enterprises to perfect the industrial chain. "The label of 'ownership' should not be attached during industrial chain building."
Concurrently released were the Social Responsibility Evaluation Index System of Chinese Industrial Enterprises, the Administrative Measures for Organizing Star Rating of Social Responsibility Performance of Chinese Industrial Enterprises and the Review and Prospect of Social Responsibility Development of Chinese Industrial Enterprises Over the Five Years (2008-2012). Besides, the delegates shared ideas on social responsibility performance and practices, and exchanged respective social responsibility reports.
