According to sources with the China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF) and the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), Yuchai's seven achievements including "Technical Innovation and Industrialization of Wood & Iron-Plastic Composite Dies" won the 2013 National Award for Machinery Science & Technology, including three second prizes and four third prizes.

The National Award for Machinery Science & Technology is intended to promote China's progress in machinery science and technology. Every year, CMIF and CMES awards entities and individuals with outstanding contributions in machinery science and technology work. This year, Yuchai yielded a "substantial harvest", with its number of prizewinning achievements soaring to seven from two in 2012.

According to Chen Jinyuan, president of Yuchai Science & Technology Association and Yuchai Technician Association, after the two associations initiated the practice of coordinated management this year, we have intensified engineering technologists and technicians management. We have learned about a lot of national industrial policies via windows like the China Academy of Machinery Science & Technology and the China Association of Machinery Manufacturing Technology. With the support of the general offices of the two associations and the process management office of the manufacturing technology department, we organized and mobilized technical workers to apply for the National Award for Machinery Science & Technology this time.

Chen said, "The prizes won this time are valuable, because they covered a wide range of fields and achieved two breakthroughs. The prizewinning units this year were not confined to Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd, but included Yuchai Machinery Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Yuchai Heavy Industry Company Limited, covering fields such as R & D and process. Additionally, Yuchai's technological achievements and technical worker were awarded for the first time. Only engineering technologists were awarded previously and the prize for technical workers will inspire other workers."

Technical innovation is the eternal pursuit of Yuchai in its corporate development. The technical application of "Technical Innovation and Industrialization of Wood & Iron-Plastic Composite Dies" has yielded substantial economic and environmental benefits for the company. According to Chi Zhao, one of the project completers, the technology is primarily applied on large diesel engines like C300, CV100 and CK100, and has advantages like fast die processing and low cost. From 2010 to 2012, the technology contributed a profit of over 15 million yuan to the company, saving a die cost of over 3.9 million yuan.
