Yuchai has recently developed and promoted an intelligent electronic control engine. With advantages such as fuel conservation, low emission and intelligenization, the engine is a high-end cost-effective product oriented for differential competition.

According to Huang Weishu, vice general manager of Guangxi Yuchai Sales Co., Ltd., with a displacement of 7.8L, up to national III emission standards, the engine is a real intelligent engine which is tailored to loaders, saves fuel by over 20 percent compared to 10L engines, and can accomplish power and torque output in diverse working conditions. Commendably, despite high configuration and frontier design, the engine is just priced slightly higher than commonly used engines with general mechanical pumps, and thus is totally acceptable to the market. Such a high-performance product is surely welcomed by machinery manufacturers. At BICES 2013, the product drew great attention from a lot of machinery manufacturers.

The product enjoys overwhelming superiority in cost performance, and it is difficult for other engine manufacturers to build such a high-end product at such low cost, Huang said.

The slump of the construction machinery industry had some influence on Yuchai's sales and made Yuchai's construction machinery sales decrease by 10 percent, "The whole construction machinery industry was affected after all, so was the engine sector," Huang said smilingly, adding, "But thanks to its strong growth in the vehicle engine field, Yuchai's overall sales remain optimistic and were up to 20 percent."

Market slump is something bad which can sometimes become good. A few years ago when the construction machinery market was prosperous, restricted by competitive pressure from other enterprises, Yuchai's construction machinery sector was unable to settle down to review the market and its products had no obvious advantage. The slump of the construction machinery market these years gave Yuchai time to think it over. Today when product homogenization is serious, to develop the market, and add selling points and highlights to machinery, machinery manufacturers also need differential products. Now the market is in dire need of quality innovative products instead of low-priced ones, if products are inferior, even low prices do not make any sense, it is impossible for consumers to buy undesired products, thus Yuchai's idea exactly agrees with consumers'. Intelligent electronic control engines exactly emerged as machinery manufacturers required. Yuchai's R & D team produced sparks of thoughts in frequent studies and discussions with machinery manufacturers. After all, consumers use Yuchai products.

Huang has its own view on China's gap from advanced foreign standards in fields like hydraulics, transmission and engine. He thought the gap between domestic products and foreign products is obvious, which is related to China's industrial foundation and consumers' consumption habits as well. In the previous period, domestic consumers value product utility above advancement. It is unrealistic and meaningless to blindly seek to exceed and approach foreign standards in separation from national conditions and consumers' habits. He noted the gap between domestic construction machinery and foreign construction machinery lies in the gap of industrial foundation.

Industrialization has generally run over 200 years in foreign countries, but China's industrialization has just developed for a short period of time, thus it is unrealistic for China to overtake foreign countries in such a short time. "Though our products are inferior to theirs, we have our own advantages: cost performance and strong after-sales service support, which are our weapons for gaining a foothold in the market as well as our competitive advantage over them," Huang thought we could do what we can to catch up in the face of the gap, but need not belittle ourselves or worship foreign things at all, "Our research and manufacturing level is strong," he said.

Besides preferentially promoted electronic control engines, gas-burning clean energy engines have always been the key products promoted by Yuchai, too. Yuchai began to develop and manufacture gas engines in 1995 and has formed series widely applied in fields like taxi, coach, bus and mining truck. With the constant perfection and increase of national infrastructure, gas engines will be applied in more and more fields.

Domestic construction machinery manufacturers are facing pains of transformation and upgrading amid the market slump, some less advanced and competitive enterprises will gradually be eliminated by the market, and development of major enterprises has become increasingly steady, "In recent years, domestic construction machinery manufacturers have developed rapidly and their anti-risk capacity has become increasingly strong, the industry will grow steadily as market competition becomes full.
