On December 16 the winner list of the 1st China Quality Award, China's top government quality honor, was unveiled in Beijing. As a result, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and Haier Group won the 1st China Quality Award, 43 collected like Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (Yuchai Machinery) and three individuals were nominated.

China Quality Award is a government award deployed by the CPC Central Committee and organized by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ). It includes the collective category and the individual category and is held biennially. The 1st edition was held this year. In 2013, upon voluntary declaration, people's governments of 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions as well as 10 cities specifically designed in the state plan and sub-provincial cities, as well as 19 industrial associations recommended collectives and individuals, and a total of 261 collectives and 97 individuals entered for the 1st China Quality Award. To make review successful, relevant departments under the State Council like AQSIQ, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture as well as relevant research institutes and social organizations constituted the Review and Award Committee of China Quality Award. The committee set up an evaluation sub-committee and a supervisory sub-committee, and established the mechanism of mutual independence, restriction and supervision in review of China Quality Award.

Upon rigorous review, Yuchai's mode of total lean management based on "zero defect, zero tolerance" was recognized by the review and award committee to won nomination. Only 43 collectives and three individuals shared the honor in the country.

For many years, Yuchai has practiced the quality concept of "zero defect, zero tolerance", implemented the quality policy of "specialization, leanness, innovation and navigation", and established a mode of total lean quality management supported by the quality evaluation system, the quality cost management system, the quality review, prevention and pre-warming system, and reliability growth management according to the quality rules of "finding causes, dividing responsibilities clearly, revising targets and conducting assessment properly", thus increasing product reliability continuously and keeping ahead in warranty mileage in the industry. In 2011, Yuchai set the objective of "improving quality by 100 percent in three years" and basically achieved the goal by late 2013, increasing the failure rate per kilometer by nearly 100 percent and substantially reducing the compensation rate and the quality cost ratio.

China Quality Award nomination is another government quality honor that Yuchai won after Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Chairman Quality Award and Yulin Mayor Quality Award. Previously, Yuchai had won honors like National Quality Management Award and National Quality Model.
