The booth of bus engine leader Yuchai drew close attention. On the morning of September 12, right after the conclusion of the 11th International Exhibition on Internal Combustion Engine (Engine China 2012), Wu Qiwei, general manager of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (YM), was encircled by the press at the booth, and each model on show was surrounded by visitors and photo takers.

Enjoying safe lead in bus engines

This time, Yuchai exhibited 11 models, including two LNG engines, one hybrid engine and eight diesel engines. Apart from a marine engine and a generating engine, a hybrid system assembly is up to National IV standards, YC6L-40 two-stage charging diesel engine, YC6A-40, YC4FA-40, YC6MK-40, YC4S-40 and YC6K-40 diesel engines are up to National IV standards, and YC6LN-50 and YC6MKN-50 are up to National V standards.

At the exhibition, Yuchai exhibited YC4S and YC4FA-40 diesel engines applicable to light-duty trucks and light-duty buses. According to Yuchais booth staff, the light-duty truck market still grew enormously amid the slump of the medium and heavy-duty truck market to become a focus of many vehicle manufacturers and engine manufacturers. With the comprehensive implementation of National IV standards, Yuchais light-duty engines will show greater advantage, too.

The exhibition theme of Innovative Development, Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction, Green Manufacturing exactly accords with Yuchais concept of Green Development & Harmony Win-win. In recent years, Yuchai has kept to the road of green industrial development, deemed it its duty to provide cost-effective green power and machinery, demonstrated its healthy and environment-friendly image, and achieved the goal of sustainable development. Meanwhile, Yuchai has been committed to strengthening its core business, developing potential sectors and expanding relevant industry chains, thus completing its global distribution, building a world-famous brand and becoming a large multinational group.

Competing in hot fields

For years, Yuchai have focused on the bus engine field and ranked first in many aspects. According to Wu, Yuchai had held the largest sales share in the bus market by 2011; in 2011, Yuchai ranked first in sales in the school bus market; in the first seven months of 2012, Yuchais LNG bus engine sales grew year on year, ranking first in the industry. In the coach market, Yuchais coach engines grew continuously, too. In the first seven months of 2012, Yuchai YC6MK and YC6L coach engines grew rapidly year on year.

Yuchai embarked upon LNG engine R & D in 1995, matched vehicles in volume in 1998 and were launched in large volume in the market in 2000. Yuchai has developed a full series of specific LNG engines with reasonable portfolio to meet the requirement of full market coverage. Particularly, the preemptive massive application of LNG engines has provided product guarantee for advancing the gasification of commercial vehicles in the twelfth five-year period.

According to booth staff, goods new about LNG engines have kept pouring in for Yuchai this year. The first batch of 25 10m new-type LNG buses of Qujing Public Transport Corporation (QPTC) went into operation on January 25, and 42 others will go into operation afterwards, making QPTC Yunnans first public transport company that has equipped buses with Yuchai LNG engines. In May, Yuchai won an order for 50 National IV gas engines in a bid of Lanzhou Public Traffic Group, and another order for 50 National IV gas engines in a bid for BRT line. Besides, in the bid of Lanzhou Junye Tourism Co., Ltd., Yuchai won the bid for 50 YC6MK engines.

The annual sales of Yuchais LNG engines are expected to top 20,000 units, Wu told cvnews.com.cn. Gas bus and school bus are the two hot spots this year, and Yuchai have competitive products in both fields that can meet diverse market demands.

In the field of school bus engine, as the concept of school bus remains confusing at home, many areas use light-duty buses as school buses, it is difficult to differentiate and calculate sales, Wu said, adding, Yuchai engines enjoy an overwhelming share in terms of specific school buses.

In recent years, Chinas bus industry has developed rapidly with Chinas astounding economic growth. Wu thought Yuchai has seized the opportunity, given full play to its advantages in technology, product and service, made great strides in the bus market and led Chinas bus engine industry for 12 years.

Yuchai keeps records of first launching diesel engines, LNG engines and hybrid systems at all levels from National I to Euro VI, has taken the lead in introducing bus engines and school bus engines to meet increasingly specialized segment demands. Yuchai should be committed to becoming an outstanding engine supplier, and bear the heavy duty of pushing forward the development of Chinese buses as an engine industry navigator with the sense of social responsibility.
