On November 16, the Plaque Awarding Ceremony of Yuchai Academician & Expert Workstation and Academician Presentation on Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technologies of Internal Combustion Engines, organized by the China Science and Technology Consulting Service Center (CSTCSC), the Guangxi Association for Science and Technology (GAST), the CPC Yulin Municipal Committee and the Yulin Municipal Peoples Government, and undertaken by the Yulin Association for Science and Technology, took place at the Yulin Convention Center. At the ceremony, Guangxis third corporate academician & expert workstation settled in Yuchai. The settlement will create a new situation for Yuchai in such aspects as technical innovation, talent training and integration of production, teaching and research.

Among attendees were Su Wanhua, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), vice council chairman of the Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines (CSICE), professor and doctoral tutor of Tianjin University; Zheng Jielian, academician of CAE and president of GAST; Li Chiquan, chief engineer of CSTCSC; Gan Xiangqun, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and vice president of GAST; Han Yuanli, mayor of Yulin and Yulins relevant leaders; as well as Gu Tangsheng, president of Yuchai Group. Also present were over 350 persons, including leaders from all counties (districts) of Yulin, relevant entities directly under the municipal government, societies and associations at the city level, science and technology associations of enterprises, science and technology associations of institutions of higher education, the technological staff of Yuchai Group and representatives from Yulin Normal University. Chen Yanguo, deputy Party secretary of the CPC Yulin Municipal Committee, presided over the ceremony.

At the ceremony, Zheng and Han awarded the plaque to Yuchais academician & expert workstation. Gu and Lin Zhiqiang, president of Yuchai R & D Center, received the plaque on behalf of Yuchai.

Han attended the ceremony and delivered an address. Han noted, establishing Yuchais academician & expert workstation is a concrete action of implementing the national policy for technological innovation and Guangxis work arrangements for establishing strategic alliances on technological innovation and innovative enterprises in 100-billion-yuan industries, as well as a major move to perfect the technological innovation system and accelerating the building of enterprises innovation capacity. In the future, we will give full play to the demonstrative and leading role of the workstation to create a talent intelligence platform for corporate technological innovation, pool the wisdom and power of experts and scholars for innovative development, propel innovation elements to concentrate in the enterprise, construct an enterprise-based and market-oriented innovation system integrating production, teaching and research, and constantly improve the enterprises capacity for independent innovation and core competitiveness.

Han hoped Yuchai would take workstation establishment as a new start point, rely on expert resources, assimilate experts wisdom, increase R & D investment and accelerate product development, to further enhance its innovation vitality and core competitiveness.

At last, Han required that departments at all levels should, with the support of entities including CSTCSC, CSICE and GAST, concentrate the strength of the city on innovative development, vigorously support workstation construction, go all out to offer academician and experts favorable environment and high-efficiency services, impel Yuchai to march towards a 100-billion-yuan enterprise and make a due contribution to the citys transforming the mode of economic development and building a well-off society in a all-round manner.

Su delivered a speech on behalf of the first group of experts to settle in the workstation, saying, the workstation is a platform of common development, academic exchanges and innovation collaboration for academicians, experts in the internal combustion engine industry and technological workers. Over the next few decades, internal combustion engines will remain dominant in the field of mobile power unit. As the annual oil consumption of internal combustion engines accounts for over 60 percent of the total oil consumption in China, the energy conservation and emission reduction of internal combustion engines are vital to the national economy and social development. The workstation has offered technological workers on internal combustion engines an opportunity of bringing their talent into play and making innovation.

Gu delivered a speech on behalf of Yuchai. He thanked the leaders of the China Association for Science and Technology, GAST and Yulin for their support to Yuchais workstation establishment. He said, with tremendous research strength, Yuchai has pooled a multitude of research talents, built a host of experimental platforms characteristic of Yuchai, formed a complete research system and made a series of research achievements. Yuchais move to establish an academician & expert workstation based on its existing R & D strength accords with the need of Yuchais strategy of technological innovation and development. The establishment of the workstation will introduce top academicians and expert teams to Yuchai to build a high-level cooperation platform, is conducive for academicians and experts to provide strategic consultation and guidance, solve major and key technical problems and cultivate innovation-oriented R & D teams for Yuchais development, thus keeping Yuchai ahead in the industry in terms of development orientation and level.

Gu added, Yuchai will cooperate with Academician Su and its research team in combustion development, energy conservation and emission reduction technologies, introduce frontier theories and methods, to advance the R & D and industrialization of major new products and new technologies, and carry out talent training and exchanges

Gan and Li spoke on behalf of GAST and CSTCSC respectively, too.

Following the ceremony, Su delivered a keynote report on Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technologies of Internal Combustion Engines and Their Development.

According to sources, Yuchai is the third entity that has established an academician & expert workstation after Liuzhou OVM Machinery Co., Ltd. and Guangxi Bossco Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. in Guangxi.
