On the afternoon of January 10, the presentation on the Phase 2 lean manufacturing projects of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (Yuchai) took place in Yuchai. General Manager Wu Qiwei heard achievement reports by all leaning project teams, highly praised the prominent implementation effects of all lean manufacturing projects, and noted lean manufacturing played a significant role in supporting Yuchai in achieve great business benefit in 2012.

On April 18, 2012, Yuchai launched the Phase 2 lean manufacturing projects. By late 2012, all the 16 projects had been completed, met fixed targets and achieved remarkable achievements: Yuchais lean management system had taken shape, with the quality of the sample line up by over 28 percent, efficiency up by over 27 percent, cost down by over 30 percent and average equipment failure rate down by 29 percent.

Wu highly acclaimed the achievements from the Phase 2 lean projects. He said, despite the continuous slump of the engine market in 2012, Yuchai grew better and more healthily than its similar enterprises. One of the main reasons is that the lean manufacturing projects have played a great role. We have made significant progress over the past one year and a half. However, we are still far behind compared to the model enterprise Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company. To narrow the gap, we need a perfect system and process. The lean system is very important for Yuchais development. Next, we should optimize, consolidate and standardize good lean projects, and popularize them among all plants and in the company. We should not only apply lean concept in production, management and product R & D, build the lean system and further consolidate lean achievements.

Also, the meeting reviewed the 16 Phase 2 leaning projects, selected and awarded outstanding projects.
