"Return a blue sky to ourselves"
--An interview with Yan Ping, an NPC deputy and chairman of Yuchai Group

Amid frequent haze, the deputies and members attending the NPC and CPPCC annual sessions scrambled to make suggestions on haze treatment. As the head of China's largest internal combustion engine manufacturer, Yan Ping, an NPC deputy and chairman of Yuchai Group, have more to say about this.

"I hope that more and more people will join to resolve this problem to return a blue sky to ourselves," Yan aired his view in an interview. He said, Yuchai has always aspired to be the controller of China's largest mobile pollution source and has included the ideal into its core values. Early in 2006, Yuchai proposed the development concept of "Green Development & Harmony Win-win". Guided by the concept, Yuchai has taken the lead in the country to be up to national emission standards in recent years, first launched products up to standards from national I standard to Europe VI, comprehensively raised the environmental level of products, and increased the maximum power per liter by two thirds in recent four years. In 2012, Yuchai's engine sales doubled from 2004, but the total particulate emission of its engines decreased by 22 percent from 2004.

"There is no shortcut for the achievements. Yuchai has achieved breakthrough in key technologies of energy-conserving and environmental-friendly engines through technical innovation under the drive of the dual mission of social responsibility fulfillment and national enterprise development," Yan introduced. Last year, Yuchai's two projects: energy-conserving and environmental-friendly engines and core technologies of parts won the second national prize for progress in science and technology. "This is the country's recognition of our efforts," he added. To better implement the green value concept and promote the development of the cause of environmental protection, Yuchai has recently initiated the construction of the green value system.

"Green development has become an irresistible trend, enterprises must be 'great enterprises" respecting environment, promoting community development and promoting human development in order to have places in the world. Promoting green development is also the need of enterprises to develop and participate in international competition," Yan said.

As to how to treat "haze", Yan analyzed the "cause" and made out a "prescription". He thought, given that fired coal and exhaust emission is the primary emission source, efforts should be made to change the energy structure, intensify elimination of backward production capacity and renovate emission management. As motor vehicle emission covers a wide range of issues including fuel quality, engine quality and customer choice, and fuel quality will affect engines' emission levels, he hoped that relevant departments and enterprises work together to advance motor vehicle emission upgrading and make concerted efforts to treat air pollution.
