Chairman Yan Ping published a signed article: Whoever Is Strong Wins

Yan Ping, Chairman of the Board in Yuchai Group, published an important article "He who is braver will win when people come into unavoidable confrontation ---thinking of the responsibility of the Management Team and Sales Team of Joint-stock Company" in Yuchai Constructors Newspaper (Term 737) issued on August 19. The following is the text:

Not long ago, Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd has made a profound analysis of completion of the management objectives in the first half of this year, found out the reasons and made a quantitative assessment. For the lost market orders, the members of the Management Team with the head of Wu Qiwei initiatively undertake a total 41.6% in the assessment, and Wu Qiwei personally undertakes 9.61%, which is not a small sum. The Sales Team has conducted demotion for the Business Leader and Director of the Office who are not ideal for completion of the task. I had a face to face conversation with the demoted comrades, and their attitude was very calm, without any complaints and any excuses, but admission. I think this lies in the courage to take the responsibility! "Taking responsibility in difficulty and bosom is in rain or shine". Such a realm and mind shall be on our Management Team and cadres.

In fact, there are many objective reasons on the failure to complete the managerial objectives in the first half of this year, such as the national macro-control, industry policies, changes of the market environment, structure adjustment in the market demand products and many other factors, which are not controlled by the human beings. However, the Management Team of Joint-stock Company looks inward to find out a gap, seek a breakthrough and shoulder the responsibility, which fully shows that the Management Team is mature and militant. The order loss is not just the responsibility of the Sales Team. There are many obvious problems in product design, quality control, manufacturing, supporting procurement, etc. Only the Sales Team has taken such actions, where our management in all levels should make a profound reflection. Only in this way, can we reassure the Management Team and Sales Team.

It is absolutely right and proper that the Management Team should be responsible for the results of the management. The Joint-stock Company has made it, how about the Group Company? At least I have not seen such information, or the group business performance in each section is better than that of the Joint-stock Company? I do not think so. But what is indeed the problem? I think there are problems on the Management of the Group's awareness and ability. I have received some letters from old comrades, of which they complained that some comrades always shirked the responsibility to the superiors and were afraid to make a final decision. This represents the fear of exposing the problem and shouldering responsibility. Being afraid of shouldering responsibility is of no mature and confidence. It not only reflects a person's lack of ability and attainment, but also reflects a person out of the work state. The cost of shirking responsibility is very expensive. It will not only affect a team's prestige and battle effectiveness, but also compromise the entire corporate culture. In the long run, how to shoulder a large task of Enterprise Group for rapid and healthy development? It deserves our great alert!

There are some other young cadres, who should have brought their spirit and energy into full play, a mind that I cannot do, who else can, and the spirit to establish a business, but the spirit is just reflected in the sun. Once in the rain, they are the same as the frost frozen-leaves rustling; their mind just performs as a phrase-monger. Once in the reality of the collision, they lose their bearing, and do not know the pale theory and a simple truth of evergreen tree in life. When they establish a business, they treat the subordinates by holding a microscope to identify problems and seek to be perfect; treat relatives by holding a magnifying glass to see results and exaggeration; treat the individuals by letting things drift and being ignorant and incompetent; treat the superior by pondering the habits to report only the good news rather than the bad ones. How do such cadres shoulder the responsibility? And where is the energy for them to shoulder the important tasks? Therefore, the cadres should study hard and reform, or be abandoned in the business.

Dear to shoulder responsibility is a realm---"I will do whatever it takes to serve my country even at the cost of my own life, regardless of fortune or misfortune to myself". For the management, whether dare to shoulder responsibilities is a touchstone to the sense of responsibility and devotion to one's work. Dear to shoulder responsibility is a realm of thought, a basic attainment and a political character for the management. Originally, "worrying about the administration at the post and taking the responsibility on duty" is the proper meaning of the title. I have repeatedly stressed that the team spirit of "high realm, great mind, well-educated and training" is also embodied here.

Dear to shoulder responsibilities needs a mind--- "Every one may make mistakes even if you are the Greatest; the best is that you can correct when you made". In the process of the enterprise reform and development of our cause, we may encounter many contradictions and problems, and many inevitable mistakes in the work. Only with the dear to shoulder responsibility, criticize, face the problem, and find the gaps, can our decision-making and measures be more scientific, can our work be more proactive and productive, and can our efforts be closer to the objectives. We should always keep the development of the enterprise and business in mind, and pay less attention to personal gains and losses, thus we may have a fearless courage and the spirit to initiatively shoulder responsibilities.

This year is the beginning of the "12th Five-year Plan", and the key to the development of Yuchai. We must bear the important task and mission in mind, and keep a relentless grasp on the green hill. What does "green hill" mean here? It is the objective of each specific work, the management objective of RMB 40 billion Yuan this year and the managerial objective of Yuchai to be achieved by the end of "12th Five-year Plan".

In the first half of this year, under the trend of the market downturn, all the employees in Yuchai worked hard to seize the market and achieved the sales income of RMB 21.067 billion Yuan. The performance increases slightly compared to the same period of the previous year and achieves more than 50% in terms of time and task. The sales income of the Yuchai Heavy Industry, Lubricant Company, Huayuan Company, Jinchuang Company, Energy Chemical Company and Changsheng Company increases more than 20% year on year compared to the previous year, of which the sales income of the Yuchai Heavy Industry, Lubricant Company and Changsheng Company increases more than 50% year on year compared to the previous year. Here, I would like to particularly praise the main leadership and team members of these companies. The Joint-stock Company and Logistics Company accounting for a larger share in the Group and playing a critical role in completion of the annual target have a great impact on the increasing of the whole Group's performance due to the sales income fells compared to the same period of the previous year. Based on this, we still have a hard fight in the second half of the year. The self-discipline assessment of the Joint-stock Company executives and demotion of the parts of cadres in the Sales Company show a signal to all builders of Yuchai: we must dare to shoulder responsibilities, and always keep a vigorous fighting will, passion, courage and tenacity to cope with various crises and challenges, to change the impossible into possible, the normal into hyper-normal, and the downturn market into a miraculous breakthrough.

I hope that the Management Team in the Group Company or in the Joint-stock Company should keep a vigorous spirit in the future work, dare to shoulder responsibilities, make continuous progress at work, overcome the fear of difficulties, and really take the important task of "hundreds of billions Yuchai".
