On June 29, China's first Euro VI vehicle diesel engine--Yuchai 6L-60 Euro VI sample was unveiled on Yuchai Power Plaza, opening a new page in the Chinese history of internal combustion engine R & D.

CATRC released the test report at Yuchai's new conference on the morning of June 29. According to the report, the nitric oxide (NOx) emission and particle emission are only 307.3mg/kW.h and 6.5 mg/kW.h respectively, far below the limitation of Euro VI emission standards and fully up to Euro VI emission regulations. The regulations are the world's most rigorous automotive emission regulations promulgated by the EU in 2009 and are referred to as the "ultimate" emission regulations in the industry, and the exhaust of engines up to the regulations is "even cleaner than air". The EU proposes to bring the regulations into effect from 2013, and most automotive engine manufacturers in Europe are still at the stage of product development. China's first Euro VI vehicle diesel engine, launched at the very moment, marks Yuchai has been capable of independently developing high-efficiency and clean diesel engines in step with the world and has mastered the currently most advanced core combustion technology of diesel engines.

The R & D staff of Yuchai and Tianjin University has made unremitting efforts in the development of the engine. It took them only four years to conquer a lot of key technical problems of Euro VI diesel engines, such as two-stage charging, exhaust gas recirculation cooling, low-temperature combustion and DPF auxiliary regeneration control strategy. Attendees acclaimed the engine as the "pride of Yuchai and China's internal combustion engine industry".

Wu said, for Yuchai which pursues "Green Development & Harmony Win-win" and aims to be the "largest controller of mobile pollution sources", the successful R & D of the Euro VI engine is just a beginning.

Over the past six decades since establishment, Yuchai has created many "world number ones" and "China number ones" in the technical R & D of high-reliable and low-emission engines. Early in 2006 and 2007, Yuchai took the lead to develop National IV and V engines equivalent to Euro IV and V ones for two consecutive years. In 2010, Yuchai first introduced the route of moderate-intensity EGR diesel engine low-temperature combustion in the world, thus establishing the technical strategy of independent and high-efficiency clean diesel engines. The same year, the first group of National V engines manufactured by Yuchai was launched.
A year later, Yuchai walked ahead in the industry again. This time, it took the lead to introduce a Euro VI diesel engine, filling a domestic gap in high-efficiency and clean diesel engines, increasing the country's technical level of developing low-emission engines and marking a milestone in the Chinese history of engine R & D.

At the collective interview following the press conference, Shi, Yao, together with experts such as Shen Jie, chief engineer of YM and Lin Zhiqiang, president of Yuchai Engineering Research Institute, elaborated on the technical advantages of the Euro VI diesel engine. According to the experts, compared to similar products in Europe, the engine launched by Yuchai this time has three technical highlights: the adoption of the fully independent low-temperature combustion technology reduces the requirement for injection pressure; the adoption of the medium-intensity EGR cooling technology accomplishes high-efficiency and clean combustion through the frequent injection strategy control of the high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system, even original emissions not treated by the after treatment system have been close to Euro V emission standards; the adoption of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology and the auxiliary regeneration particle filter reduce the urea consumption of the after treatment system to half of that of a National IV diesel engine, thus enormously reducing cost, facilitating customers and reducing the reliance on the urea administration device.

The development of core technical researches on engines will boost the R & D of Yuchai's full series of engines. Independent core technology will provide sufficient technical reserves for the further upgrading of Yuchai's full series of products.
