From 0% to 80%, DPTG's tourist buses carry Yuchai engines

From 0 percent to 80 percent, how did Yuchai manage that in less than five years?

Now nearly 80 tourist buses of Dalian Public Transport Group (DPTG) Tourism Branch are powered by Yuchai. "Actually we did not come into contact with Yuchai until 2008 and our buses had been powered by engines of other brands before," said Song Xieming, vice manager of the Maintenance Center of DPTG.

That is to say, the share of Yuchai engines in DPTG has soared from 0 percent to 80 percent in less than five years. How on earth did Yuchai manage that? Why did DPTG Tourism Branch change its attitude so greatly in five years?

Chance leads to change from 0% to 80% in 5 years

It has been nearly five years, but how he came into contact with Yuchai engines remained fresh in Song's memory.

"The company would upgrade some buses annually and we upgraded nearly 10 buses in 2008," Song said, adding that the company paid no special attention to these new buses at that time as they were recommended by an old customer. "The price was almost the same as before, so we took it for granted that the configuration was the same, too."

However, Song came to discover the difference between two buses and others when the winter arrived.

"It was cold here in the winter, so we often had difficulty in starting some buses including those newly purchased. But there were no such circumstances in which the two buses have difficulty in starting, the drivers said they apparently felt the two buses were powerful, quite different from others," Song recalled.

Song suddenly remembered afterwards that the two buses recommended by his friend were powered by Yuchai engines. "I remembered they were recommended by a brother tourism company, because they had been operating buses powered by Yuchai engines which were in good conditions."

From then on, whenever the company Song worked for upgraded buses annually, it would choose Yuchai-powered buses. "The company would upgrade a dozen buses annually, now nearly 60 of the company's nearly 80 buses have carried Yuchai engines including six-cylinder engines and four-cylinder engines. The two buses powered by Yuchai engines earliest are still operating in good conditions."

Assured quality makes Yuchai engines trustworthy

According to song, the Tourism Department of DPTG is its subsidiary engaged in tourist transport. Now the company owns nearly 80 53-seat buses ranging from 10 meters to 12 meters, with a maximum travel distance of 3,000 kilometers and a minimum distance of over 300 kilometers. "We mainly engage in bus leasing in the annual peak tourism season from May to October, and also run provincial routes ourselves from November to next April, so these buses have never been laid idle," he said.

How has been the performance of Yuchai engines in intense operation in recent five years?

"The company also has buses powered by other engines, but I feel Yuchai engines to be highly superior to other engines in stability and fuel economy. Besides, I feel Yuchai's after-sales services are good, engine parts are easy to purchase and after-sales staff is warm," Song analyzed.

Among different Yuchai engines, YC6M and YC6MK heavy-duty engines satisfied Song most. As the two engines were put to use, he also experienced the overwhelming superiority of Yuchai engines. "We began to use YC6M in 2010 and YC6MK last year. There are currently over 20 buses powered by YC6MK engines in the company."

"In the early operation of YC6M, our drivers said it is powerful. As our travel routes are unfixed, often run on mountainous roads, so the strong power of the engine impressed drivers deeply when the buses climbed. In fuel consumption statistics later, we discovered that the engine saves fuel by 5 percent to 10 percent compared to other engines," Song said.

Due to YC6M's outstanding performance, Song's company chose YC6MK-powered buses at the earliest possible time after learning the launch of YC6M's upgraded version--YC6MK.

According to sources, as the first strategic model of Yuchai's 10L engine platform, YC6MK is a relatively mature model based on the YC6M engine platform and geared to internationally advanced YC6K engine platform technologies, which keeps pace with technologies of key heavy-duty truck engines and was developed in nearly five years.

Due to its strong power, high reliability and high adaptability to various environments and working conditions, YC6MK has matched samples of major heavy-duty truck manufacturers like Dongfeng, DFLZM, JAC and CAMC. Besides, in the bus field, YC6MK targeting 12m+ buses has matched three bus brands: Yutong, Youngman Neoplan and King Long, and other major bus manufacturers are also working actively on matching.

"Upgraded YC6MK can not only meet current emission requirements, but also is more powerful. Now we dispatch YC6MK-powered vehicles for ultra-long routes. After more than a year of operation, we feel YC6MK is not only as powerful as YC6M, but also has higher stability and fuel economy," Song said at the end of the interview.
