Yan calls on intensifying key technology, core parts R & D, valuing traditional manufacturing

Recently, Top 500 Enterprises of China Release Conference & Corporations Summit 2012 has been held in Changchun, Jilin Province. Yan Ping, chairman of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., was invited as an entrepreneur representative, and delivered a speech at the high-level round-table meeting on Chinese major manufacturer development. Efforts should be made to intensify key technology and core parts R & D in the internal combustion engine industry, and great attention should be paid to traditional manufacturing at the national level, Yan suggested.

When attending the seminar on soliciting entrepreneurs opinions on 2011 Government Work Report held by the State Council in early February 2012, Yan made a proposal to Premier Wen Jiabao that the State should further intensify attention, support and guidance to the internal combustion engine industry, and include core parts R & D in the national strategy, in a bid to break Western monopoly as soon as possible.

On the sidelines of the NPC and CPPCC in March 2012, Yan told cvnews.com.cn, Core parts have dragged down the overall level of Chinas engine industry, we will be controlled by foreign countries forever if this sector is stagnant, this has concerned the security of national industry. We must master core parts technology and step from a large manufacturing country to a manufacturing power.

The spread of the European debt crisis has propelled the deep reform and adjustment of the global economic pattern, developed countries are recovering slowly, Chinas economic development is switching from the stage of fast growth to the stage of moderate growth and the problem of lack of balance, coordination and sustainability of economic development remains prominent. In this context, the co-chairmen of Top 500 Enterprises of China Release Conference & Corporations Summit 2012 will, together with attending business leaders, experts, scholars and government officials, go into issues including how to accomplish the sustainable development of large-sized Chinese enterprises, how to build competitive edge and grow strong, and how to form a new profiting mode compatible with the stage of moderate growth.

In a speech at the high-level round-table meeting on Chinese major manufacturer development, Yan reiterated that efforts should be made to start from developing national industry and manufacturing, for example, the key technology and core parts R & D of engines, the core of the auto industry, should be included in the national development strategy.

With the spirit of bearing the heavy task of national industry development, Yuchai has always forged ahead in the engine industry, and has input tremendous manpower and resources into engine R & D and production. In recent two years, Yuchai has launched lean manufacturing, and progressively built a complete lean operation system (YCOS) from such aspects as production, R & D and supply chain, in an effort to sharpen its competitiveness.

Yan added that Yuchai has persisted in and worked steadily on R & D, quality control and corporate culture building over the years. This has also opened a new round of reorganizations and negotiations with international giants for Yuchai. Yuchai has never had such a great say in reorganization and cooperation with international giants.

On the sidelines, Yan was also interviewed by Jilin TV.

According to sources, at Top 500 Enterprises of China Release Conference & Corporations Summit, Wang Jiming, executive vice president of China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) and China Enterprise Director Association (CEDA) released the 2012 list of Chinas Top 500 Enterprises, the 11th consecutive edition of the list released by CEC and CEDA. Yuchai ranked 226th and topped the list of the four enterprises from Guangxi.
