Recently, leaders of Communications Commission of Guangzhou, Guangzhou Automobile Group CO., Ltd. (GAIG) and GAIG Autobus Co., Ltd. boarded the hybrid power bus of Yuchai to experience the superior performance of the vehicle. The test result was very encouraging. The selling points of the vehicle in terms of power and cost were very good and its outlook of the next 3-5 would be positive, they put it. They also showed willingness to start long term all-round strategic cooperation with Yuchai.   

During the test, head of Yuchai Engineering Research Institute Zuo Bin and his PhD team fully demonstrated the R & D achievements of Yuchai urban hybrid bus. General manager Li Tiansheng made a detailed description on the core strengths and market conditions of Yuchai engines. Following the test and previous contacts, two subsidiaries of commercial vehicle sector of GAIG agreed that both sides had laid the foundation for strategic cooperation. Apart from the project for the 16^th Asian Games, they hoped to start long term all-round strategic cooperation with Yuchai. Yuchai and Guangzhou Automobile Industry exchanged models that represented a new chapter in strategic cooperation was opened.  

Yuchai urban hybrid bus is powered by both diesel engine and electric motor. At acceleration, the motor provides power to assist the strong force of engine. At deceleration, the motor will act as the power generator to recycle the energy. Its ISG technology makes the four-cylinder engine equal the effects of six-cylinder engine. It achieved the leading international level. The engine lows about 20 of the fuel consumption on urban roads. The R & D of the project was started at the beginning of 2006. At the end of 2007, the 1^st urban hybrid bus debut at the ASEAN Expo. In May 2008, Yuchai received the 1^st order for these engines and began small scale production.   

According to report, in order to promote energy saving and the use of new energy auto, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Science and Technology recently issued a joint circular, planning to boost over 60, 000 energy saving and new energy autos in public transport, taxi, governmental service, sanitation, postal and other public services in 13 experimental cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing, by way of financial subsidy. Urban buses over 10 meters are the main beneficiary of the subsidy. Of which every hybrid power bus is due to receive 420, 000 Yuan. And pure electric and fuel cell bus subsidies are 500, 000 and 600,000 Yuan respectively. This good news will bring a warm spring to the development of Yuchai hybrid power engines.
