Careful passengers might notice that the number of Yuchai engines in the newly purchased buses for Beijing public transport is increased. All buses from 13.7 m double-deckers of Jinghua to 12 m buses of Bafangda, used Yuchai State IV engines. Most of them are the 6L 240-40 model.  

Yuchai showed a series of engines of different power ranges for passengers vehicles that included two State IV engines, one State V engine and State III diesel engines and LNG/CNG Gas engines in the Beijing Buses Exhibition according to the introduction by Cui Huabiao, deputy chief engineer of Yuchai Sales Co., Ltd. Most of the products on display were low emission engines that illustrated the feature of Green Yuchai. In terms of technical for State III engine, the products applied mono pump and common-rail technologies that showed the technological strength of Yuchai.

Mr. Cui was very proud when he spoken the performance of Yuchai in passenger vehicle market: in 2008, 55 of the passenger vehicles above 6 m (included) were equipped with Yuchai engines. The total share of Yuchai in the passenger vehicle market was increasing. Though its share in the passenger vehicles above 8 m slid slightly, the sales volume was up due to the expansion of the overall market.    

Yuchai produced series of engines for passenger vehicles ranging from small power to high power. Among them 6L and 6G models are mostly used. According to a number of trials by Yuchai engineers, 6L is more suitable for 12m large-size buses since 6L has the advantages of low fuel consumption and low costs. It saves about 2 liter fuel compared to other larger displaced models in the 12 m vehicles. More than 20 thousand 6L and 6G are used for passenger vehicles in one year.   

The situation in Beijing is somehow different. Its urban buses use automatic gearboxes which can use low displacement high power models such as 6J of 210 hp while buses in the suburb use the configuration of 6L + manual gearboxes.
