Six projects were awarded the first prize of 2008 Scientific and Technological Progress of Yulin at the 2009 Work Conference on Science and Technology of Yulin. The two projects from Yuchai are: the study on the aging heat treatment for residual heat of the engine cylinder block and cylinder head castings and the YC6J -30 engine project. 

The study on the aging heat treatment for residual heat of the engine cylinder block and cylinder head castings is a new R&D project to comprehensively use residual heat with new technology and new equipment. In April 2009, the treatment technology for the residual heat in reducing residual casting stress was granted the patent for invention. The project considerably helps to save energy and reduce emission. From March 2005 to January 2009, over 14.08 million kilowatts were saved from the production of over 140,000 tons castings in the new casting workshop of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. It equals to about 5,014 tons standard coal. At the same time, about 100 tons of SO2 and 1,103 tons of CO2 were reduced. The technology currently has been used by Yuchai Casting Center and a number of well-known domestic engine makers.   

YC6J-30 engine has outstanding power efficiency and cost saving, as well as social and economic benefits. Apart from meeting the State III emission standards, its emission level is the lowest compare to the same domestic medium-size diesel engines.
