In the endless pursuit, Yuchai Machinery Co. Ltd, (Yuchai) has formally adopted the Lean Six-Sigma management model this year to improve quality and operational management, with the expectation of fulfilling the long-term development target.
Six-Sigma is customers orientated, aimed at the best of industry, based on data and facts, with process performance and financial evaluation as results, and achieve perfect quality management method. It also try to improve the management philosophy, practice and cultural principal to continuously improve corporate management. Six-Sigma identifies and removes the causes of defects (errors) in manufacturing and business processes. It follows a defined sequence of steps and accesses quantified targets to satisfy the customers. The characters of Six-Sigma are: wider vision, strengthened customer focus, significant reliance on statistics data, emphasis on process improvement, active self-improvement management and the promotion of cooperation culture. Six-Sigma currently has been widely applied in the Top 500 Companies of the world and achieved huge success. Those companies include Bao Steel, Haier, China Heavy Duty National Truck, and Cummins.
For years, Yuchai has been continuously adopting various management methods and tools, including ISO9000, TX16949, 5S management, and Excellent Performance model etc. A comprehensive management system has been built and received the National Quality Award. Six-Sigma fulfills the need of further improvement. In the beginning of Jan. this year, headed by the Chaireman - YAN Ping, a special team has been built to work on establishing Six-Sigma management system. Yangzhi, a consultant, has been contracted on the initial steps and stuff training in each department. Currently, the assessment is at the first stage. The kick-off event is proposed in the late March.
