Yuchai becomes the first domestic enterprise that has developed commercial diesel engines with the largest power per liter
On December 28, Guangxi Yuchai held a press conference on Installation and Commissioning of Low-carbon, Energy-conserving and High-efficiency Engines, demonstrating YC6J350-40 and YC4FA185-40, two low-carbon, energy-conserving and high-efficiency two-stage turbocharging engine models that were the quintessence of the cooperation between Yuchai and Tianjin University, and YC6J350-40 was installed for commissioning. This marks that Yuchai has become the first domestic enterprise that has developed commercial diesel engines with the largest power per liter (over 40kW/L) and accomplished the installation and commissioning of two-stage turbocharging diesel engines.
The press conference was presided over by Lin Zhiqiang, president of Yuchai Engineering Research Institute. Corporate leaders such as Yan Ping, chairman of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (YMCL), General Manager Li Tiansheng, Deputy General Manager Ning Xingyong and Zhong Yuwei and Chief Engineer Shen Jie, the leading body and engineering representatives of the institute, Professor Yao Mingfa, director of National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines, Tianjin University, as well as 15 domestic mainstream media institutions attended this press conference.
Li Tiansheng published the technical result of low-carbon, energy-conserving and high-efficiency engine, saying that the two low-carbon, energy-conserving and high-efficiency engine models introduced at this press conference, jointly developed by Yuchai and Tianjin University, were the fruits of an organic combination of Yuchais proprietary technologies in product design, combustion system, electronic control system and powertrain matching. Through developing low-carbon, energy-conserving and high-efficiency engines, Yuchai has developed a domestic leading capacity for the miniaturized and integrated development of engines, showing again the constant increase in Yuchais independent innovation capacity.
Yao Mingfa addressed the press conference, saying that the successful development, installation and commissioning of the two engine models gave full play to the industrialization capacity of Guangxi Yuchai and the research capacity of the united internal combustion engine laboratory of Tianjin University, and accomplished the mutual advantage supplementing and common development of the two parties. The cooperation between Tianjin University and Yuchai dated back to nearly 40 years ago, the two parties entered into a new strategic agreement this June with the aim of carrying out all-round and deeper strategic cooperation in such aspects as scientific research and staff training and joining forces for the technical R & d of high-efficiency and low-carbon new-generation engines, and the two-stage turbocharging diesel engines introduced this time were another key technical breakthrough of the cooperation.
According to the source, the technical result of installation and commissioning of low-carbon, energy-conserving and high-efficiency engines includes three advantages: (I)Low-carbon emission. The power per liter of the two models is 40kW/L and 45.3kW/L respectively, meaning that YC6Js displacement of 6.5L has reached the power level of common 8.4L diesel engines, while YC4FAs displacement of 3L has reached the power level of common 4.5L diesel engines, if being used for actual passenger transportation, each vehicle can save carbon dioxide emission by at least 5t a year, and 1,000 vehicles can save 5,000t.
(II) Energy conservation. The two models, which involve advanced technologies such as two-stage sequential charge inter-cooling, aerodynamic optimization of intake & exhaust system, light high-strength body structure design and combustion optimization control, save fuel consumption by 5% compared to other vehicles of the same model with large-displacement engines; are up to National IV and V standards in emission level; have a turbocharge ratio of 3, namely, the intake pressure has increased to the three levels of atmospheric pressure (the intake pressure of common diesel engines is equivalent to two levels only), to increase the low & medium-speed torque by 30% and enhance vehicle dynamics.
(III) Engine miniaturization makes the vehicle lighter. For example, the overall weight of YC4FA185-40 is 100kg lighter than that of common 4.5L diesel engines with the same power, saving frictional work of moving parts and increasing mechanical efficiency to make the vehicle run more efficiently.
Following the press conference, all the attending guests and journalists took happily the test vehicle with YC6J350-40 diesel engine to experience the effect of test ride. The results of installation and commissioning showed that the vehicle with the engine had outstanding overall dynamics, saved fuel consumption by 5% compared to other vehicles with large-displacement engines, and was 40kg lighter. The successful installation and commissioning made Yuchai the first domestic enterprise that had accomplished the installation and commissioning of two-stage turbocharging diesel engines. According to the source, the two models are schedule to be put into small production in 2010 and mass production in 2011, and will be dedicated to the 60
th anniversary of the founding of Yuchai.
This is Yuchais another technical result of energy conservation and emission reduction after advanced renewable pneumatic hybrid technology unveiled on December 21. Today, when the low-carbon economy based on low energy consumption, low pollution and low emission has become the hotspot and consensus of the world, Yuchai is actively fulfilling its social responsibility through constantly introducing domestic leading technologies in a bid to make greater contributions to the sustainable development of the society.
