The release of the Research Report on Chinas Top 500 Machinery Manufacturers in 2010 was the 8th edition since the debut in 2003. Chinas unbalance in economic development determines regional unbalance in the development of Chinas machinery industry. Apart from Tibet and Guizhou, machinery enterprises in 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities were ranked among top 500. Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Shandong contributed the most, a total of 254 enterprises were in South China, accounting for 50.80% of the top 500, including 74 from Zhejiang, 70 from Jiangsu, 41 from Shanghai and 36 from Shandong. According to a survey by the World Company Lab, the total sales income and profit of Chinas Top 500 Machinery Manufacturers were RMB 4.562258 trillion and RMB 334.543 billion, up 15.21% and 16.35% from the previous year respectively. Thus, Chinas machinery industry has maintained steady economic growth and been superior to the previous year whether in total sales income or total profit after the global financial crisis. Notably, 11 of the top 20 enterprises and 21 of the top 50 were from the automobile industry. Despite a slight fall in the number of automakers among the top 500 enterprises caused by the global financial crisis, the auto industry has remained high in the contribution to the machinery industry and national economy.
