"In June 2009, I was admitted to Tianjin University (TJU) upon recommendation for postgraduate study in the name of outstanding graduate of Huazhong University of Science & Technology. I treasured the precious resources in the State Key Laboratory of Engines (SKLE) and concentrated myself on the study and research. Over the past year, I achieved brilliant academic and research results, and was fortunate enough to be supported by TJUs Yuchai Scholarship." On October 26, at the Yuchai Scholarship & recruitment presentation at TJU, Duan Zhenzhong, a master postgraduate in power machinery and engineering from the School of Mechanical Engineering, TJU, extended sincere thanks to Yuchai for its financial support on behalf of the scholarship winners.

To promote the development of TJUs educational cause and support the poverty-stricken outstanding students of TJU, Yuchai donated a sum of RMB 500,000 in 2009 to set up the Yuchai Scholarship at TJU as part of the universitys Beiyang Scholarship Program. In 2010, upon rigorous examination by Yuchai and TJU, 32 students from five schools including the School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering & Automation, School of Material Science and Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology and School of Computer Science and Technology, TJU won the Yuchai Scholarship between 2009 and 2010. So far, the scholarship has supported more than 60 needy outstanding students of TJU.

The cooperation between Yuchai and TJU dates back a long time. Early in the 1970s, Yuchai had applied the compound combustion system invented by Academician Shi Shaoxi from TJU to introduce X105 diesel engine. In March 2009, the unveiling ceremony of the joint laboratory of SKLE and Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. further cemented the ties.

Wang Yan, deputy Party secretary of TJU, spoke highly of Yuchais move to care for needy students, saying that the spirit of aiding those in need and treasuring talents is admirable, hoping that the students will repay the nation, the society and whoever have cared for and financed them with brilliant academic results, and pass on the care and love.

On the day, Li Tiansheng, vice chairman of Yuchai Group; Guo Deming, deputy Party secretary of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd.; Lin Zhiqiang, president of Yuchai Engineering Research Institute; Pang Jian, deputy manager of the Human Resources Department of Yuchai Group; Wang Yan, deputy Party secretary of Tianjin University; Yao Mingfa, deputy dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering and director of SKLE; and other leaders presented bonuses and certificates to the scholarship winners.

At the presentation, Li personally briefed the students on Yuchais overview and advantages in technology, talent, culture and life, portrayed Yuchais grand blueprint of building a large multinational enterprise group, and enthusiastically answered the students questions on major matching, talent cultivation mechanism and other aspects to deepen their understanding of Yuchai.
