At the identification meeting of Yuchai YCHPT hybrid powertrain system scientific and technological achievements organized by Guangxi Science and Technology Department, held on August 23, the national 863 high-tech project Yuchai "commercial vehicle hybrid powertrain system" was unanimously recognized by all experts as having reached domestic leading technical level, and has passed the identification of scientific and technological achievements.
On the afternoon, the identification meeting of Yuchai hybrid powertrain system scientific and technological achievements was held in the Torch Building of Guangxi Nanning High-tech Industry Development Zone. The major project supervision team leader Wang Binggang of national 863 planning energy-saving and new energy automobiles project, deputy head Hou Fushen of major project office of national 863 planning energy-saving and new energy automobiles project, and deputy director Tan Ricai of Guangxi Institute of Automobile and Tractor, and other domestic auto industry experts and professors participated in the identification of technological achievements. General manager Li Tiansheng of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. and senior technical consultant Zhuo Bin of the chairman attended the identification meeting. The head Li Weihong of Achievement Management and Science and Technology Popularization Office of Science and Technology Department of the autonomous region presided over the meeting.
Yuchai experts introduce product technology and performance to evaluation experts
Research and development of Yuchai YCHPT hybrid powertrain system project was led by Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. and jointly carried out by Shanghai Haineng Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, aiming at uniting key parts manufacturers and research institutes to take the road of combined industry, learning and research, building our countrys hybrid powertrain R & D platform together, and building up the capacity of hybrid powertrain industrialization. The project's research and development began in early 2004, and after extensive research and full demonstration, it was determined at last to adopt single axle parallel-type hybrid technology program. After 5 years of R & D validation with two major technologies upgrading, the YCHPT hybrid powertrain system with independent intellectual property right and with performance comparable with international advanced level, was at last developed, which broadened the coverage of Yuchai's products and also filled a domestic gap in such aspect. In 2009, the project was listed as the National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program), receiving the State's approval and support.

As the key part for energy-saving and emission reduction of new energy automobiles, hybrid powertrain is the key automotive technology to solve the current energy security and environmental problem in our country. Since put into the market in April 2009, Yuchai hybrid powertrain system has been applied to many assembly factories such as Chongqing Hengtong, Wuhan Yangtze Motor, GAC Bus, Yutong, Zhongtong Bus, Suzhou Kinglong, JAC, Changchun Hope Automobile, etc. The accumulative number of hybrid powertrain system input into the market has reached 200, and the highest mileage traveled of a single bus with such system has approached 100,000 km. The system reliability has stood the test of the market, the rate of energy saving on actual bus routes has reached 20% on average, and the market performance and energy saving effect have achieved excellent.

At the meeting, Yuchai exhibited the prototype and sample vehicle equipped with YCHPT hybrid powertrain system with independent intellectual property rights, and professor Zhuo Bin the senior technical consultant of Yuchai chairman made a detailed introduction of the system; the identification committee carefully examined relevant technical document and information, listened to the technical and work report of Yuchai, made site inspection of commercial vehicle hybrid powertrain components, prototype and the sample vehicle which is equipped with the powertrain system, experienced the test ride effect, and answered to doubtful questions about relevant technical problems. At last, the identification committee experts also conducted technical achievement identification of Yuchai hybrid powertrain system.
Yuchai experts exchange with evaluation experts
Experts believed that Yuchai hybrid powertrain system is China's first independently developed commercial vehicle hybrid powertrain system equipped with single axis parallel-style system which is applied in large quantity, and which is innovative in mechatronics design and flexible connection, SOC balanced self-learning, intelligent shift control of manual transmission, clutch non-isolation shift technology, and highly efficient recovery technology. It has independent intellectual property right and has obtained four utility model patent licenses. The achievement has reached domestic leading level and passed the identification with universal approval of all evaluation experts.
Sample vehicle equipped with Yuchai hybrid power engine
It is understood that, among the hybrid power systems currently used in hybrid power buses which have been put out by domestic bus companies, foreign brands take the leading position, which are at high price. Yuchai YCHPT hybrid power system has not only reached domestic leading level in technology, but also sells cheaper than similar foreign products by about 10%, and the price will be greatly reduced after mass production. The effective cost control makes it possible to realize industrialization of domestic brands and promote the development of national industry.
As an authoritative expert in automotive industry, Wang Binggang believes that, compared with Eaton and other hybrid power system brands, Yuchai hybrid power system has competitive advantages in energy-saving and cost. He also holds that, Yuchai hybrid power system will become a new growth point of Yuchai, and it also indicates that Yuchai has assumed social responsibility, made important contribution to energy saving, and served as a model for auto industry innovation.

Structural features of Yuchai hybrid power system YCHPT:
Yuchai YCHPT parallel-style hybrid power system adopts single-axis parallel structure, and its engine is placed on the same axis with permanent magnet and synchronous motor of low-speed and big-torque, with compact structure, high mechanical efficiency and good reliability. Automatic clutch is located between the engine and motor, which realizes the flexible switch among pure electric driving, pure engine driving and hybrid driving through program control. YCHPT system adopts the mainstream technology solutions, with high degree of integration and strong versatility, not only facilitating whole vehicle matching but also producing very good energy saving effect.
YCHPT system adopts thin permanent magnet and synchronous motor of low speed and large torque, which effectively reduces the weight and volume of hybrid powertrain system, and helps to realize boost, power generation, feedback and rapid start and other hybrid power functions. YCHPT adopts standard design, ensuring the minimum vehicle reform, which makes it suitable to various types of buses.
YCHPT system adopts the Yuchai patented automatic control mode which acts on the clutch master cylinder, so it can realize automatic clutch control as well as maintain traditional clutch mechanism. Once the electronic control system fails, the driver can still drive according to the conventional way, so the reliability of the system is improved.
