Guangzhou pledged to build the 16th Asian Games into a low-carbon and green one. Besides new energy-conserving materials for venues, transportation will be low carbon oriented during the Games. YCHPT gas-electric hybrid system emerged as the Games require, and the engines consume low-carbon fuel LPG. With equal caloric value, LPG emits carbon dioxide at least 15% less than diesel; combined with the use of YCHPT hybrid system, energy can be saved by 25% to 30% compared with traditional engines, the effects of energy conservation and emission reduction of the combination are prominent, fully up to the standards of the Guangzhou Municipal Transportation Commission (GMTC) and public transport companies, making Yuchai the exclusive gas-electric hybrid system supplier of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAGC).

A vehicle with Yuchai hybrid system to be operated during the Games

Recently, the new vehicles with YCHPT gas-electric hybrid system have been delivered by batch to Guangzhou first, second and third bus companies, which are running across the city on lines such as 136, 185 and 284, presenting a splendid view. During the Games, they will shuttle between the Asian Games Town and competing venues to spread the Games concept of green and harmony.

Before the Games, the public transport companies in Guangzhou will input 114 vehicles with YCHPT gas-electric hybrid system. Recently, through the elaborate commissioning of the service support team of the Games, 84 vehicles have wound up commissioning and 38 have been delivered for operations. The drivers reported strong power, smooth shift and good economy.

Guangzhou, one of the national model cities for the popularization of energy-conserving and new energy vehicles, will take the Games to progressively increase municipal financial input into new energy vehicles. According to GMTC, if these vehicles run in good conditions, new energy vehicles will cover more than 10% of the public transport sector in Guangzhou from 2010 to 2012. Today, when the new energy vehicle industry has become a key target supported by the State, all areas in the country have paid great attention to new energy vehicles, especially hybrid vehicles. These vehicles, put into operation before the Games, will have great impact on the public transport market in Guangzhou and the country. Ensuring the smooth operations of these vehicles has become the top priority of the service support team.

To ensure that these vehicles are released offline punctually and delivered to the customer in optimal conditions, instructed by Zhang Ting, commander in chief and deputy general manager of the sales company, the service support team made elaborate arrangements. Gong Zhihua, chief scheduling engineer, coordinated the establishment of the hybrid commissioning team and sent the commissioning team to GAGC Bus Plant (GAC Bus) for commissioning services.

The team, headed by Li Ming and Yu Dazhong, made up of members like Feng Chao, Song Fengqi and Zeng Gong, has been working at GAC Bus every day since August, voluntarily coordinating with the persons in charge of related technical departments, starting from vehicle scheduling, tracking arising problems in the full course until closure. They strictly abided by the code for hybrid commissioning, kept records of the details of performance parameters of every vehicle, established the relevant platform for summarization and tracking, duly gave feedback on and coordinated for prompt solutions to problems. Despite the complexity of the hybrid system which includes engine, motor and high-pressure cell control systems, under the guidance of Yuchais experts like Zhuo Bin and Liang Feng, with diligent, meticulous and responsibility work attitude, they have grown rapidly into technical masters in respective areas. The leaders of GAC Bus spoke highly of their efforts, considering their commissioning work to be meticulous and proper.

After vehicle operations, the service support team also organized training for bus drivers and repair staff in operation and repair capabilities, and assigned special staff to track bus operations to enable the drivers to understand and make good use of hybrid.

During the Games, YCHPT gas-electric system will, together with athletes, keep achieving good results belonging to Yuchai and the world.
