The Summit Forum of the 7th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) on "The New Opportunity-Sharings by Manufacturing Industry in the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area", sponsored by the CAEXPO Secretariat and Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), cosponsored by Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., was held at the Conference Hall of Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center on the afternoon of October 20.
He Guangyuan, honorary chairman of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and former minister of machinery building industry; Lu Yansun, honorary chairman of CMES and former vice minister of machinery building; Prof. Duan Zhengcheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and doctoral tutor of Huazhong University of Science & Technology; Wu Heng, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Li Tiansheng, general manager of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd.; as well as more than 50 representative equipment manufacturers from home and abroad were present.
The forum probed into and forecasted the prospect, opportunity and challenge of cooperation for China's equipment manufacturing industry after the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. The experts present thought that the key enterprises in the Beibu Gulf, represented by Yuchai, should develop the high-end manufacturing industry to boost local economic development.

Lu Yansun made a keynote speech entitled "High-end Equipment Manufacturing Industry Is the Breakthrough of Equipment Manufacturing Invigoration", thinking that accelerating the development of high-end industries has become a focus of new-round international competition. The decision on speeding up the cultivation of strategic industries was made at the just-concluded Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee. Developing the high-end part of the industry chain is critical to corporate growth. Yuchai's preemptive development of National IV and V products in recent years is exactly a reflection of high-tech development. Yuchai and the other key enterprises in the Beibu Gulf should maintain the momentum of innovative development and develop the high-end equipment manufacturing industry to boost the development of the manufacturing industry in the Beibu Gulf.

Prof. Duan Zhengcheng made a keynote speech on issues such as equipment manufacturing and machinery innovation, noting that the basic and common research on manufacturing as well as the integration of cutting-edge technology with enterprises is the source of high-tech innovation. On the basis of the need for national development, with enterprises as the man body, combined innovation of production, learning, research and practice is an effective approach for high-tech development.

In recent years, Yuchai has made great technical progress through the combined innovation of production, learning, research and practice. Li noted that as the domestic leader in engine emission control, Yuchai has established more than 10 research institutions in partnership with domestic and overseas companies and institutions, the No.1 technical center in the industry, and wound up seven research projects under National 863 Program through nearly six decades of development. Yuchai will actively explore the optimal mode of green development and join hands with other equipment manufacturers to promote the development of China's high-end equipment manufacturing industry.
The forum attracted great media attention and caused a great sensation. Journalists from Guangxi and the rest of the country, such as China News Service, Hong Kong Wen Wei Po and Guangxi TV Station, were present.
