Yuchai longs for the beginning of the twelfth five-year period
-Essay on the 3rd Session of the 16th Yuchai Workers Congress

Spring comes early in the south. On February 26, Yuchai was decorated in multiple colors in the vigorous spring.

That day, the 3rd Session of the 16th Yuchai Workers Congress was held, bringing together staff delegates from all the subsidiaries of Yuchai to exchange ideas on Yuchais future development. This is the last congress during the term of office of the delegates, and this year marks the beginning of the twelfth five-year period and coincides with the 60th anniversary of the founding of Yuchai, making the congress more meaningful than ever.

At the congress, Yuchai announced its twelfth five-year plan for the first time, and the five keywords on the plan advanced by Chairman Yan Ping draw extensive attention from all walks of life.

From the congress, people learned how Yuchai will achieve leapfrog development and the great significance of the twelfth five-year plan to the staff.

How to achieve leapfrog development

Yuchai created two new Yuchais in five years in the eleventh five-year period. They are totally different from that in 2005 in essence and health. Over the five years, Yuchai accomplished the synchronous increase in scale and benefit as well as the healthy and sustainable development of the enterprise by various means such as adjusting the group position, improving the product structure and management level of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (YM) and conducting domestic industrial distribution.

At the conference, the staff delegates were proud of corporate development over the five years. How to achieve leapfrog development in the future then? How do the new subsidiaries go steadily on the fast track of development? The delegates had heated discussions on these questions.

Yuchai United Power Co., Ltd. (YUP) carries Yuchais great hope of building world-class heavy engines, showing the brand essence of high reliability and low fuel consumption is the foundation for the existence and development of YUP as well as the core task in 2011 and in the long run. As a member of the presidium, YUP General Manager Liang Heping felt heavy in the heart, saying, It is due to the heavy mission on our shoulders and Yuchais ardent hope for this project. YUP is a new company far away from Yuchais headquarters, whose leading products are whole new world-class product platforms. Everything is new for YUP, meaning greater challenges and more problems, so we dare not slack off at all.

The east and west bases of Yuchai Heavy Industry Company Limited (YHI) are also one of Yuchais major investments outside the headquarters as well as a key layout of YHI to broaden the product chain and achieve the objective of RMB 10 billion. At the annual marketing service conference held by YHI in the east base this January, products such as 100t electric mining excavator were displayed. The series of products will give a support for the accomplishment of YHIs twelfth five-year objective. Yan pinned great hope on YHI, saying, Now the key is to center on the strategy to build products and teams.

In the opening year of the twelfth five-year period, YM laid emphasis on the objective of manufacturing and selling 200,000 heavy engines and improving quality by 50%. It can be seen that a second leap in quality is a major move and objective of YM to accomplish leapfrog development.

In the report, Yan noted, Most valuably and essentially, we built a team that adjusts to current economic development, faces up to the market economy and dares to assume responsibility in the eleventh five-year period.

Whether we can assume the responsibility for building a group with sales of RMB 100 billion as part of the team is the key to leapfrog development.

How to benefit staff

Benefit is one of the keywords at the congress. If the enterprise accomplishes leapfrog development, the staff will be improved. Development & Harmony Win-win is not only corporate win-win, but also the common development of the enterprise and staff. At the congress, in the report entitled Cultivating Advantages and Making a Good Start in Celebration of Yuchais 60th Anniversary, for the first time, Yan took benefit as one of the five keywords generalizing the characteristics and significance of the twelfth five-year plan, showing that the group centers on staff development while seeking corporate development.

Just as YM Deputy General Manager Zhong Yuwei mentioned at the group session of the staff delegates of the sales company, We will share with the staff the achievements in corporate development. In the eleventh five-year period, children of 344 employees of Yuchai won a sum of over RMB 1 million from Yan Ping Love Education Fund Yuchai Scholarships; 1,010 wounded and sick employees reimbursed over RMB 3.5 million; 500 girls received a total donation of RMB 1.25 million under the Spring Buds Program.

Also, Yuchai invested heavily in reconstructing 22,844-square-kilometer Yuchai Stadium, constructing a turf football pitch, laying a synthetic track and adding equipment to the outdoor illuminated basketball court and the fitness path, to enrich the staffs leisure life.

At the conference, Yuchai released a series of measures to improve the staffs production and living conditions. The group leaders gave clear replies on the extensive concerns of the staff such as the relocation of the coal yard and affordable housing for the needy staff.

In the report, Yan noted that Yuchais rate of local matching would reach 40%, meaning that more matching manufacturers would build plants in Yulin to increase the rate of local employment and promote local economic development; in the coming five years, the foundry would be relocated to Yuchai Industry Park, meaning that its foundry level would be improved further and the peripheral environment of the staff community will be enhanced greatly.

The greatest impact on the staff will be the further increase in the corporate revenues. This year, YMs production and sale structure has changed significantly, with the production and sales of six-cylinder engines topping those of four-cylinder ones for the first time. With the further advancement in YMs heavy engine market strategy, the corporate revenues will increase steadily to create more wealth for the humankind, society, shareholders and staff.

Corporate development will benefit all the staff of Yuchai. The 17 staff delegates from CSR Yuchai made their debut at the conference this year. They returned to Yuchai by bus early on February 24. Deng Jun, a workshop director and staff delegate from CSR Yuchai, radiated pride in the face, saying, Im proud to be part of the great family of Yuchai, we will achieve the objective of RMB 100 billion by the end of the twelfth five-year period, which is also a prime opportunity for us staff.

Currently, engine remains as Yuchais largest industrial sector. In the twelfth five-year period, sectors such as construction machinery, logistics & auto trading and energy & chemical will catch up.

Every staff will keenly experience the harvest and joy from corporate development.
