In 2010, Yuchai ranked first among Guangxis enterprises in the number of patent applications and invention patent applications. From 2006 to 2010, Yuchai ranked first in the number of patent applications for five years in a row with the number of invention patent applications surging, thus becoming a great patent owner in Guangxi and the industry.

Yuchai has strengthened the management of patent intellectual property, formed a set of systematic and professional patent work mechanisms, developed a rich atmosphere of company-wide attention to patent protection, promoted independent innovation through patents and developed a large number of competitive products to keep sharpening corporate core competitiveness.

From 2006 to 2010, Yuchai applied over 1,000 patents, including about 700 authorized ones, accounting for over 70% of applied patents. Of the patents, four-valve diesel cylinder cover unloading slot won the China patent award; YC6J and YC6G diesel engines won the China award for independent automobile innovation from China Automotive News. World-class quality heavy truck engine YC6K integrates the worlds latest technical achievements, and owns over 30 patents for technical invention. By popularizing patented products, Yuchai has promoted independent innovation and boosted market competitiveness. In 2010, the sales of new patented products topped RMB 9 billion, roughly 40% of the total sales.

Leading the industry in product R & D. Yuchai has kept ahead at home in diesel engine emission control. Yuchai National III, IV and V diesel engines were developed successfully three to five years ahead of the implementation of the national emission standards, laws and regulations, synchronizing Chinas engine R & D with global engine R & D. in 2010, Yuchai National V engines were used in volume in the public transport system of Beijing as the only winner for the bid for National V engines.

Advancing technical innovation. Yuchai has set off a wave of technical reform in the domestic automotive engine system by taking the initiative in supporting homemade systems, advancing the concept of using electric pumps in medium & light diesel engines, putting after-sale diagnostic units on the market, accomplishing autonomous calibration and advocating and promoting SCR technology of heavy diesel engines

Advancing low-carbon emission, Yuchai has kept ahead in the industry in engine exhaust emission control. By 2010, the total sales of Yuchais four-cylinder engines or above had increased by 8 times compared to 1994, but the total particulate emission had remained basically unchanged. In energy conservation, the per-rated-power fuel consumption rate of Yuchai diesel engines has dropped by 14% from 1998.

Due to outstanding performance in patent work, Yuchai was listed among the third group of national pilot intellectual property enterprises and institutions by the State Intellectual Property Office in 2006; was identified as a national high-tech enterprise, ranked among the national advanced collectives in patent work and won the award for achievements in independent innovation in 2008.
