From June 20 to 24, 2011, the 1st "YHI" National QC Team Achievement Contest, organized by China Association for Quality (CAQ) and sponsored by Guangxi Yuchai Heavy Industry Company Limited (YHI), was held in Guiyang.

Qi Weiming, vice chairman and secretary-general of CAQ; Chen Zhonghua, deputy chief editor of China Quality; Zhan Xu, deputy Party secretary of YHI and other leaders participated in the contest. YHI sent eight managers and technicians for observation and learning.

At the opening ceremony, Qi and Zhan delivered speeches. Qi noted, through QC team activities, many enterprises have solved the quality problem of frontline production, thus further increasing product quality. At the same time, enterprises' managers, technicians and researchers have further recognized quality and learned management in activities to become enterprises' nucleuses. Zhan said, QC team activities is a vital quality culture, CAQ has established a platform for promoting quality culture whereby enterprises' QC teams have managed to demonstrate achievements and share experience. Through continuous QC team activities, YHI has mobilized staff's enthusiasm and creativity of participating in quality control and improvement, and has created a favorable atmosphere of "everyone values quality, everyone improves quality".

522 teams entered for the contest, and 217 were shortlisted. Over 500 participants representing 193 teams were present. With many achievements and newcomers, the contest boasts the most-ever achievements and highest-ever overall level. Popularization of quality tools was a highlight of the contest. Based on the "twelfth five-year plan", a lot of teams selected "energy conservation, emission reduction, cost reduction and benefit increase" as the theme of QC team activities.
